Held safe in the tight embrace of God’s protection

I’m wondering how many people have a truly terrifying experience, such as a serious car accident, come through it and can then say that they experienced the protection of God in one of the most powerful ways possible.

Up until last week, I could not.

Last Wednesday, I was heading to Edmonton with Jonny to pick up a fridge that had been donated to camp. An hour and a half into the drive the dangers of Canadian winter driving reared its ugly head.

Several factors worked against us, causing the mostly empty van to fishtail across the road, hit a snow bank and roll several times in the ditch. We both walked away with only a few cuts and bruises.

The sound of crunching metal, breaking glass and the image of the scene right afterwards- our stuff thrown everywhere throughout the snow and Jonny being held in the driver’s seat by his seatbelt, a meter above me, will remain forever burnt into my mind.

2 men saw the whole thing unfold and told us later that they didn’t expect anybody to walk out.

To say that we are blessed is an understatement.

People often say that God is, or was, watching over them, but He does more than that. He surrounds us with his presence, holds us tight, and never lets us go. Ever.
